Kamari Jackson becomes the Hornets’ first football commit for the rising senior class

We’re starting to see this more and more throughout the 757 and it has happened again. On the verge of his senior season Kamari Jackson of Woodside High School has made the decision to take his talents to Delaware State University. The choice was between UVA-Wise and Delaware State as the rising senior made his announcement via Twitter within on Saturday morning. The Hornets have recruited the Woodside product to play on the back half of the defense at the safety position. With this decision out of the way, Jackson plans to focus on his senior season where anything short of a state championship won’t be accepted.
“How I’ve ended up at Delaware State is a pretty interesting story. I was heading up to the University of Delaware with my mother because we had previously talk to the Delaware head coach. We ended up getting a great tour of the school and when we started talking to the coaching staff they informed us we were at Delaware State University. After we started talked I showed them my highlight tape and we’ve been talking ever since. I took a trip to their camp over a month ago with Kendall Bell and they were still interested in me. I feel as though Delaware State is the best place for me to get my education and I’m glad Delaware State has a communications program,” stated Jackson.
Jackson (SR FS 5-11 180) fell in love with both the coaching staff and the atmosphere at Delaware State. At the time of his commitment Jackson was receiving interest from UVA-Wise, Hampton University, and Montana State. Making this decision before the start of his senior season takes a lot of weight off of his shoulders. Jackson grew up as an underdog. Not many people had faith in his abilities or what he would turn out to be. Now he will have the chance to show those same people and himself what he can do on a collegiate level. This decision is deeper than football itself. Jackson will be the first person in his family to commit to a Division I program as he continues to be a role model to siblings beneath him.
“I want to say I am the first person in my family to attend a Division I college. As far as my sibling I stay on them a lot. They know that ever since I started playing football at six years old my mother has always been on the field. She’s been a football mom for a very long time now and is still one with my younger brother. They know how important this process is and how hard I am on them to succeed. Even my four year old brother is training now because he sees what we do and he copies it,” said Jackson.
The road to a state championship started for Woodside High School last Thursday as they were one of many teams in the Peninsula District to open the season. In order for the Wolverines to upset Glenoak High School in Canton, Ohio they’re going to have to “stop the run defensively,” per Jackson. The Woodside Wolverine has absolute faith in the defense and has already started film study. Jackson will stop at no cost to ensure a win for the Wolverines on August 26.
