Jordan Williams becomes the Tigers first local football commit since Tajh Boyd

It was a day for celebration at Cox High School. Jordan Williams quietly rose up the ranks as a recruiting target over the past year or two, and as of now is the most highly recruited player in Coach Bill Stachelski’s tenure at Cox.

Stachelski shed a few tears as he recalled Williams’ development and his impact on the football program.
“Jordan is always smiling. He always has a great attitude, a positive attitude, and he portrayed that in his entire career at Cox. Every year, he got a little bit better. That’s what we look for in our players. Jordan has been a great example, especially to our younger guys,” the coach said. “It would be easy for most 16 or 17-year-old to have his head swell up, but it didn’t happen to Jordan. He stayed grounded. He’s humble and mature beyond his years.”
Coach Stachelski praised Jordan for his humility, his dignity and his hard work, and he also praised Ray and Bernice, Jordan’s parents, for their role in making Jordan the young man he is today.
Jordan took the mic and didn’t waste time in making his announcement. He thanked his family, the community and God, plus the universities that blessed him with scholarship offers.
Jordan’s proclamation of “For the next four years… I’ll be furthering my academic and football career at… Clemson University,” was met with cheers and applause. Jordan chose Clemson over Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
We caught up with him immediately after the ceremony to get his take on the decision.
“I’ve actually been silent for about a month and a half,” said Williams. “I went back (to Clemson) for the cookout on July 22, and that was when I looked Dabo (Swinney) in his eyes, shook his hand and told him I was going to be coming to Clemson.”
“Clemson is the best overall school for me. They have my major, a great weight room program, a coaching staff that I have a great relationship with, great football… the #2 team in the country that competed for a national championship last year, ACC Champs, so I feel like it’s a great program for me.”
