Buffalo Wild Wings welcomes Tylan McElhenie as he commits to the Blue Hens

Is it ironic that a restaurant that serves chicken wings would be the host for Tylan McElhenie’s commitment ceremony as he pledged to a team with a Hen as a mascot?
Seriously, McElhenie pushed hard to show college coaches that he was deserving of their attention. His performances on the field at Ocean Lakes last fall and his grind at college camps and 7-on-7 events took a while to sink in, but McElhenie started landing offers this spring when Delaware State became the first school to offer. Delaware was the last school to offer, but it was obviously the school that Tylan felt the most connected to.
“Coach (Steve) Evans said it seems like he’s been committed (to Delaware) for the last two years,” said Chris Scott, Tylan’s head coach at both Ocean Lakes and Bishop Sullivan. Coach Steve Evans has been Tylan’s position coach for the past few years and he’d have some insight on Tylan’s thoughts and dreams.
His last few college visits came in a flurry of activity a little more than a week ago. Tylan visited Wake Forest, Towson and Delaware all in a two-day span. Wake hadn’t offered, but Towson and Delaware are fierce rivals in the CAA. It oddly came down to the rivals and Delaware won out.
“Being patient was really hard, but I knew it would pay off in the long run. All of the schools that offered me, it was a real blessing, I appreciate it,” said Tylan. “I chose Delaware because it was the right place for me. I had such a great connection with the coaches. It’s going to be a great fit.”
“(Tylan) is a hard worker who can grab the ball out of anywhere in the air…. He’s a big possession receiver who can get you plays down the field,” said Coach Scott. “I think Tylan will come in and show it will work if they get the ball to him down the field.”
