Heritage QB Jeremiah Boyd commits to the Midshipmen

How many quarterbacks across the 757 region are doubling as a linebacker on the defensive side of the ball? Not many I assume. Jeremiah Boyd has been a major fixture at Heritage High School since he arrived on campus in 2013. Just this past Saturday the rising senior took a trip to Annapolis, Maryland where he was able to get a tour of the campus. This was also a chance for Boyd vision what it would feel like to run out of the tunnel at Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium should he ever commit.
It didn’t take too long before Boyd realized he wanted to call Annapolis, Maryland home for the next four years.
“The visit was fun. I love the atmosphere and I love the coaches. They’re some guys who are already committed to Navy and I like the guys who were already there. Navy was the first program to give me an offer so I felt like they were the first program to give me a chance. The campus is close to water and that’s another thing I like about Navy as well as the fans they have. When visiting the campus everything about it felt like home,” stated Boyd.
Boyd (JR QB/LB 6-1 205) also held an offer from rival Army and was beginning to draw interest from: Marshall, NC State and James Madison. The Heritage product will head into Annapolis looking to earn starting honors right away. Keenan Reynolds has been the man behind center for Navy over the last four years. The Midshipmen product worked out for the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens before being drafted in the sixth round by the Baltimore Ravens in this year’s NFL Draft.
Boyd understands what type of system he’s going into. This is a system that allowed Keenan Reynolds to throw for 4,001 yards and 31 touchdowns in four years. Equally impressive is the 4,500 rushing yards and time span. Boyd’s versatility as a linebacker is a bonus and gives him an additional opportunity to see early playing time.
“Navy is talking about inserting the next man up who can be the best man up. If I happen to be the best man and work hard then I may be able to possibly start. I like their offense because they like to run the ball and I like to run the ball. I know they have a couple of pass plays they like to put in their offense to keep the defense honest. Whenever we have to throw the ball I know I can sling it. I feel like I’m already a dual-threat type of guy who can run and throw the ball. I can do it all,” said Boyd.
Making this decision before the start of the regular season was very important to Boyd. The Heritage Hurricane feels that in making this decision now, he’s making the best move for himself and his family for the future. Decisions as such can weigh heavily on a football team looking to have optimal results throughout the off season. With this decision not hanging over his head, Boyd will have to the opportunity to have a stellar season as long as his health is factored into the equation.
